"To be, or not to be, that is the question.." is the opening phrase of a soliloquy in the "Nunnery Scene" of William Shakespeare's play, Hamlet. This world famous quote asks a question, and I believe this question has a distinct answer, and it lies within you.

TO BE is a positive life force statement that allows us to complete it with our own “brand” of being, offering the world a glimpse into who we are, what we stand for (or against), the standards by which we guide ourselves and how we view the world.

Because...it really is...all about you. 

You ARE your brand

Truth: You only get one chance to make a great first impression.  

As a PR and promotional strategist for much of two decades of my business, the expression really is noteworthy. As a forthcoming author, you want to be incorporating these principles now, not when you publish your book. Character and Integrity are my two biggest value points in life. You begin building your greatest asset, your billboard of self, your Brand on the day of your birth. There is a difference between a brand and branding.  How so?  Your Brand (capital B) comes to life the moment you are born.  My Brand came to life on May 18, 1963.  How about you? You may develop many branding platforms for products or services along the way, but you must pay careful attention to follow through with your thoughts, actions and behavior to support your Brand, or your most important asset will be gone with the wind.

Your Brand. Your Code

Your Brand takes many years to develop and become your primary law of your existence by which you stand. By turning your back on some of the basics, you can also destroy your Brand, and we don't need to look very far in today's news headlines to witness real life examples. By extension, who you are, your Brand, will become the very foundation of your business, your author platform, your future and your legacy. Consider these as essentials in your Brand:


Your word; your handshake; your moral code; your beliefs; your genuine mentorship to others; your strength of quality; the manner by which you communicate your ideas and points of view; your level of respect for yourself and others; your use of basic manners; your observance and adherence to the Golden Rule; your conduct in all situations; your leadership; your expressions of deep gratitude and appreciation; your desire for excellence through hard work harming no one; your service to your community; your authenticity; your values; your sense of justice and equally important, what you stand up for and stand against.

It's the company you keep. It's your circle of life. It's a compass and you must be unwavering in how it guides your actions. It takes only one moment to change its direction and set you permanently off course. Be solid and steadfast, genuine and true.

Because, it really is....all about YOU.

The best part of incorporating the following 23 old-fashioned ideals into the way you conduct yourself (your Brand) is that they will essentially become the basics behind any “branding” for your business, your author platform, your future business. And the cost to you? Nothing. That's right.  It's absolutely free. The cost to you is $0.00.

The good news is that the old-fashioned way never goes out of style. So, let's get back to basics with what I like to call the TO BE 23:
